Icarus Session on 2/6/13

Icarus Sessions are a challenging new way to bring your art forward; not to make a sales pitch, not to get customers or patrons, but to find the courage to stand up and say, “here, I made this.

Concert Recap

Wow! This was a fabulous concert! I had the pleasure of performing for the Lake Charles Symphony “Gala Fundraiser” which included plenty socializing, a performance by a select ensemble from the Lake Charles Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Bohuslav Rattay), and my interpretation of Maury Yeston’s Song Cycle, December Songs.

Hanging out with Barbara Sher

Today I begin a year long journey – Hanging Out with Barbara.

I wrote:
I’m glad to be hanging out with you, Barbara, it brings back memories of Venice Beach, CA August 2008. What a fun retreat!
She wrote:
That was fun all right. I think we still have you on video, Carla, on some little Flip camera, giving your super, high-energy pitch to the rest of us, and applauding you in the little solarium.

Collaboration Gift from Vickie Singletary

A warm thank you to Lake Charles artist, Vickie Singletary, for gifting me with the beautiful giclée, titled Renewal, on November 9th. This painting was inspired by the Maury Yeston song cycle, December Songs. Many of you may remember I performed this song cycle, and presented Vickie’s art in December 2011 at The Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth. Based on the success of that evening Vickie and her husband Allen Singletary have arranged a Gala benefiting the Lake Charles Symphony. I’m thrilled to once again perform this song cycle...

French Music Scholarship

This  was a fun home event filled with French food, French music, a French flag and a  Mariachi Band (which wasn’t at all French!) but added so much to the French Fun.  There were children playing musical instruments and adults talking, singing, playing the piano and drinking French wine.  We raised $740.00 for a Tarrant County Student to receive a scholarship in French related studies.   My great friend Annette Germinario and her husband Mark were in town and attended our event.  Annette looked fabulous and sang beautifully. ...
